As of 24 October 2026, Julián Álvarez wears No. 19, Alexander Sørloth No. 9 and Álex Baena No. 10 for Atlético Madrid. Antoine Griezmann’s old No. 7 now belongs to Lee Kang-in, Koke is captain at No. 6 and Diego Simeone is still head coach. The full 2026/27 squad number list is below.

Who took Griezmann’s No. 7 at Atlético?

Griezmann left for Orlando City on a free transfer at the end of June, as our Griezmann Orlando City page explains. Lee Kang-in, who joined from Paris Saint-Germain in July, has taken No. 7. Both ESPN and Wikipedia list him there.

Álvarez, Sørloth and Baena keep their numbers from last season: 19, 9 and 10. Giuliano Simeone is No. 20 again and Pablo Barrios keeps No. 8.

Five summer signings have first-team numbers. Every number below is the same on ESPN and on Wikipedia’s first-team list (dated 3 September 2026).

• Lee Kang-in, midfielder from Paris Saint-Germain: No. 7.
• Jonathan David, forward on loan from Juventus: No. 15.
• Cristian Romero, defender from Tottenham Hotspur: No. 21.
• Álex Grimaldo, left-back from Bayer Leverkusen: No. 22.
• Morten Hjulmand, midfielder from Sporting CP: No. 23.

Who changed number this season?

Two players already at the club have new numbers when you compare Wikipedia’s 2025/26 and 2026/27 squad lists:

• Ademola Lookman moved from 22 to 11. Thiago Almada wore 11 last season and was sold to River Plate in August.
• Obed Vargas moved from 21 to 3. Matteo Ruggeri had worn 3 and left for Aston Villa.

Nahuel Molina’s old No. 16 went to Arnau Ortiz after Molina’s move to Roma.

That chain explains most of the new signings’ numbers. Grimaldo took the 22 that Lookman gave up, and Romero took Vargas’s old 21. Hjulmand has 23, which Nico González wore before his loan ended and he went back to Juventus. David’s 15 had belonged to Clément Lenglet, who is on loan at Benfica.

Which numbers are free?

In La Liga, numbers 1 to 25 are kept for first-team registrations. In that range only No. 2 and No. 12 are free on ESPN’s list. José Giménez wore 2 last season, and Wikipedia lists him leaving for Deportivo de La Coruña on 1 September. Numbers can still be handed out in the winter window.

ESPN lists 29 players. Wikipedia’s first-team list has 25, and all 25 numbers match ESPN. The four extra names on ESPN are academy players with higher numbers: Miguel Cubo (29), Arnau Solà (32), Javier Gil (45) and Jorge Castillo (46).
