Japan Player Version Shirts: Fit, Fabric & Sizing Guide
Japan player version shirts are the match-cut version of adidas’s Samurai Blue kit. adidas retired HEAT.RDY in November 2025 and its authentic tier is now Climacool+. The 2026 World Cup home shirt, named HORIZON, is Japan Blue with an ash-blue horizon graphic. Ours are $44.99 against $37.99 fan.
Japan have been supplied by adidas since April 1999, one of the longest unbroken relationships in international football. The current agreement is reported to run to the end of the 2026 World Cup; we have not seen an announcement either extending it or ending it, so we will not claim adidas continues beyond that point.
The 2026 World Cup home shirt was released on 6 November 2025 under the concept name HORIZON. The colourway is Japan Blue with Ash Blue, and the graphic is a set of curved ash-blue details running across the chest, representing the point where sky and sea converge around the Japanese islands — the horizon that is always present for an island nation. The Hinomaru, the Japanese flag, is placed on the back of the collar rather than the chest, positioned there to symbolise unity and national pride. The JFA crest carries the Yatagarasu, the three-legged crow of Japanese mythology. This shirt is also being carried forward and sold as the 2026/27 Japan home jersey.
On fabric: adidas retired HEAT.RDY and AEROREADY in November 2025 and reinstated Climacool for replicas and Climacool+ for the authentic, player-issue tier. adidas describes the Japan shirt as combining lightweight sweat-wicking fabrics with mesh zones built into high-movement areas for ventilation. We have not been able to verify laser perforation, bonded seam or crest-application specifics for this particular shirt from an official source, so we will not assert them.

What is the difference between the Japan player version and fan version?
The player version is cut slim and short with a lighter engineered fabric and heat-pressed badging; the fan version is relaxed and true to size in a heavier knit with a stitched or printed crest. adidas splits these as Climacool+ and Climacool. At 433FC they are $44.99 and $37.99.

How does the Japan player version fit?
It runs the tightest of any shirt on this site. It combines the slim adidas authentic block with Japanese sizing, which is cut narrower and shorter than European sizing at the same letter. Most buyers outside Japan should size up one, and anyone between sizes or broad through the chest should size up.
What sizes are available in Japan player version shirts?
Our Japan player-version range runs S, M, L, XL and XXL only. There is no 3XL or 4XL in the player version, which combined with the narrow Japanese cut makes this the most size-restricted range we carry. Fan-version Japan shirts do run to 4XL and are the better option if you need a larger size.
Japanese sizing is the single most common ordering mistake
We flag this more strongly on Japan than on any other page because it causes more returns than any other national-team shirt we sell. Japanese apparel sizing is drafted for a different average build: at the same letter, the chest is narrower, the body is shorter and the sleeve is cut tighter than a European or American equivalent. Stack that on top of the player version’s already slim block and an L can fit closer than an M in a European club shirt. If you normally wear a European L, order XL here. If you normally wear XXL, the player version will very likely not fit and the fan version is the honest recommendation.
Which Japan name and number should you get?
From the 2026 World Cup squad, Takefusa Kubo wore 8, Ritsu Doan 10, Daizen Maeda 11, Daichi Kamada 15, Ayase Ueda 18 and Zion Suzuki 1 in goal. Keisuke Goto wore 9, and Wataru Endo is reported to have worn 6 as captain.
One important correction, because it is the most common request we cannot fulfil correctly: Kaoru Mitoma was not in Japan’s 2026 World Cup squad, having been ruled out by a season-ending injury at Brighton. A World Cup 2026 shirt printed with Mitoma is not an accurate squad shirt. Japan finished second in Group F after a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands, a 4-0 win over Tunisia and a 1-1 draw with Sweden, then lost 2-1 to Brazil in the round of 32, with Kaishu Sano scoring his first international goal.
Is the Japan player version worth it?
It is worth it if the HORIZON graphic is why you want the shirt and you are confident about the tighter Japanese cut, or you play in it. If you are unsure about sizing, need above XXL, or want the shirt for everyday wear, the fan version is safer at $37.99 and in a fuller size run.
