How this ranking was put together

Two things decided the order. The first is critic consensus: The National ranked all twenty Premier League strips on 19 August 2026, judging clubs on their full set rather than a single shirt. The second is crowd scoring: Footy Headlines runs a community rating out of five, and its Premier League round-up on 17 July 2026 put Brighton’s away shirt top on 4.11, with Aston Villa and Ipswich Town level on 4.04. We have weighted the critic position most heavily and used the community score to break ties and to lift shirts the critics under-rated, which is why Brighton climb from fifth to second. Leeds United sit seventh in the critic ranking but are left out here: the designs are good, and the objection is to the size of the Red Bull logo rather than to the shirt.

Where the two disagree, we have said so. Liverpool are the clearest case: The National put them fifteenth, describing the home shirt’s front pattern as a bus seat print, while the away shirt is called clean.

3. Manchester United (adidas)

Which Premier League kits ranked worst in 2026/27?

Newcastle United finished twentieth of twenty on The National’s list, which judged the home shirt among the worst the league has seen; the community score of 2.42 broadly agrees. The National reports Crystal Palace’s home shirt causing genuine anger among supporters, and Bournemouth recorded the lowest community rating of the lot at 1.88, largely because of the pink Vitality sponsor across the front. Sunderland and Fulham are both marked down for their second shirts rather than their first — Sunderland’s is called shocking, Fulham’s red-and-black design questionable.
