Earlier reports in May had hinted at this design. On 30 September the full shirt appeared through a Cologne news page and the Köln-focused site Inside Müngersdorf, and Footy Headlines picked it up. Willi Ostermann wrote many of Cologne’s best-known Carnival songs and is one of the city’s great cultural figures. The release lines up with two dates: 1 October 2026 is his 150th birthday, and 2026 is also 90 years since his death. Instead of a separate Carnival shirt this autumn, Köln and adidas, the club’s new supplier, chose to mark him with one special edition.

Design Breakdown

Colour. The base is a deep burgundy, close to wine red. According to the leak, it comes from the uniform of the Willi Ostermann Society and from the jester’s cap (Narrenkappe) that Ostermann made famous.

Gold details. Gold is used throughout: on the adidas logo, the Köln crest and both sponsor marks, REWE on the front and DEVK.

Chest. The main feature is Cologne’s coat of arms in the centre of the chest, between the adidas logo and the club badge. Few club shirts put a city crest in that spot, so it stands out right away.

Music in the fabric. The notes of “Heimweh nach Köln”, Ostermann’s best-known song, are printed subtly across the front. You’ll see them up close more than from the stands.

Collar. A polo collar finishes it off, which suits the formal, ceremonial feel.

How It Compares

For years, Köln’s autumn special has been a Carnival shirt. Last season’s 2025/26 Carnival jersey followed that tradition, made by the club’s previous supplier. The 2026-27 shirt keeps the Carnival link, since Ostermann’s songs remain Carnival staples, but it focuses on one person and shifts the palette from bright Carnival colours to burgundy and gold.

It’s also one of the first special editions of Köln’s adidas era, after the new 2026/27 home, away and third shirts. Even the price nods to the city. The club version costs €111, a reference to 11, the number at the heart of Cologne Carnival. It comes in collector’s packaging.
