Argentina Player Version Shirts: Fit, Fabric & Sizing
Argentina player version shirts are the match-cut version of adidas’s albiceleste kit. adidas retired HEAT.RDY in November 2025 and its authentic tier is now Climacool+. Argentina have been supplied by adidas since 2001, and the relationship is locked in unusually far ahead: an extension announced in June 2024 runs to 2038, covering the 2026, 2030, 2034 and 2038 World Cups across the men’s, women’s and youth teams.
The 2026 World Cup home shirt keeps the albiceleste vertical stripes, but the detail worth knowing is that the sky blue is not one colour. adidas used three distinct shades, drawn from the shirts of Argentina’s three World Cup-winning sides — 1978, 1986 and 2022 — so the stripes carry a subtle tonal step rather than reading flat. Dark navy appears on the shoulder stripes, sleeve trim and collar detailing, and all the adidas branding along with the AFA crest is rendered in gold. Three stars sit above the crest for those three titles, the back of the neck carries “1893” for the AFA’s founding year, and there is a gold FIFA World Champions 2022 badge on the chest.
On fabric, adidas retired HEAT.RDY and AEROREADY in November 2025 and moved to Climacool for replicas and Climacool+ for the authentic, player-issue tier — the Argentina player shirt is retailed by adidas with Climacool+ built in. As with Japan, we have not been able to verify perforation, seam or crest-application specifics for this shirt from an official source, so we will not state them as fact.

How does the Argentina player version fit?
It fits close through the chest and tapers at the waist, with a short hem and narrow sleeves. The vertical albiceleste stripes are unforgiving of a poor fit, since any pull across the chest bends them visibly. Size up one if you are between sizes or want the shirt to hang loose.

Worth understanding before you buy, because it changes what this shirt is. The gold FIFA World Champions 2022 badge on the chest reflects Argentina’s status going into the 2026 tournament as holders. Argentina did not retain the trophy: they reached the final on 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium and lost 1-0 to Spain after extra time, Ferran Torres scoring in the 106th minute. Emiliano Martinez made 12 saves, reported as the most ever in a World Cup final, and Argentina played the closing stages a man down after Enzo Fernandez was sent off.
Two consequences for buyers. Argentina remain on three stars — 1978, 1986 and 2022 — so the crest does not change. But the champions badge does: Spain now hold that title, and the next Argentina kit will not carry a World Champions marking. That makes the 2026 shirt the last Argentina kit to be sold with it.
Which Argentina name and number should you get?
Lionel Messi wore 10 as captain at the 2026 World Cup, aged 39, and scored eight goals on the way to the final. He did not win the Golden Ball — that went to Rodri of Spain, with Kylian Mbappe taking the Golden Boot. Several secondary reports have this wrong.
As of late July 2026 Messi has not retired from international football. Reporting in Argentina suggests he intends to continue for a few more months, likely through the 2026 Copa America, with a commemorative farewell match being organised — but there has been no official AFA or Messi announcement, so treat it as expected rather than confirmed. It is worth it if you want the gold crest and three-tone stripes on the lighter, closer shirt, or you play in it. Note that the World Cup shirt carries the 2022 champions badge, which will not appear on future Argentina kits, so collectors have a specific reason to buy this one now.
