Women’s Football Shirt Sizing: Fit, Cut and Size Charts

Womens Tottenham Hotspur 2026/27 Home Jersey
Quick Answer
Women’s football shirts use a different pattern to unisex ones: narrower shoulders, a shaped waist and a body about an inch shorter. Measure your bust and match the maker’s chart rather than your dress size. To move to a unisex shirt, drop roughly two UK dress sizes.

Women’s football shirts are cut on a different pattern to the unisex shirts sold alongside them, and the letter on the label means something different as a result. A women’s medium is not a unisex medium with a different badge — it is narrower across the shoulders, shaped through the waist and shorter in the body. That single fact causes most of the returns we see on women’s-fit shirts, so it is worth five minutes before you order.

What is the difference between a women’s-fit and a unisex football shirt?

A women’s-fit shirt uses a tailored block: narrower shoulder seams, a curved side seam that nips in at the waist and flares slightly at the hip, and a body roughly an inch shorter than the unisex equivalent. A unisex shirt is cut straight from chest to hem with wider shoulders. Same fabric, same badge, different pattern.

Neither is “the real one”. Clubs sell both from the same manufacturer, in the same season colours, and the printing and badging are identical. The choice is about how you want it to sit.

Women’s fit vs unisex: what actually changes

Feature Women’s fit Unisex fit
Shoulder width Narrower, seam sits closer to the neck Wider, seam can drop past the shoulder
Waist Shaped, curved side seam Straight, boxy
Body length Shorter, hits at the hip Longer, covers the hip
Sleeve Slimmer, shorter Wider opening
Neckline Often slightly scooped Usually a straight crew or V

What size women’s football shirt should I buy?

Measure the fullest part of your bust with a tape held level and not pulled tight, then match that number to the chart. Do not guess from your jeans size — top sizing and bottom sizing are set from different measurements.

Nike publishes the following body measurements for its women’s tops, which is the block its women’s-fit football shirts are built on:

Size UK EU Bust (cm) Bust (in)
XS 4–6 32–34 75–83 29.5–32.5
S 8–10 36–38 83–90 32.5–35.5
M 12–14 40–42 90–97 35.5–38
L 16–18 44–46 97–104 38–41
XL 20–22 48–50 104–113 41–44.5
XXL 24–26 52–54 113–123 44.5–48.5

Adidas and Puma set their own women’s blocks and publish their own charts, so check the maker’s chart rather than assuming a medium travels between brands. Across all three, the women’s block is drafted shorter in the body than the unisex one — if you are around 5’8″ or taller, that is the dimension to watch, not the chest.

Women’s-fit shirts at 433FC run S to XXL. Our size chart sits on every product page, and it is the one to measure against.

Should I size up in a women’s football shirt?

Only if you are between two sizes on the chart, or if you plan to wear a hoodie underneath at a winter away game. The women’s block is already close-fitting by design, so going up a size mostly adds length and shoulder width — it turns the shirt back into the boxy shape you were avoiding. If you want room, buy the unisex cut deliberately rather than an oversized women’s one.

How do I convert my size to a unisex shirt?

Plenty of supporters prefer the unisex cut for the longer, looser look. As a working rule, drop two UK dress sizes: a UK 12 lands around a unisex S, a UK 16 around a unisex M. Check it against the chest measurement on our general football shirt size guide before you commit — the rule is a starting point, not a guarantee.

If you are buying for a younger supporter, the numbered 16–28 system is a different scale again and is explained in our kids’ football shirt size guide.

Do women’s-fit shirts use different fabric?

No. A women’s-fit replica uses the same engineered polyester as the unisex replica from the same range — the recycled Dri-FIT, AEROREADY or dryCELL weave described in our shirt fabric guide. What does change between tiers is the construction: the player-issue version is lighter, tighter and bonded rather than stitched, which we break down in authentic vs replica.

Because the fabric is identical, so is the care. Cold wash, inside out, no fabric softener, no tumble dryer — the full method is in our shirt washing guide. Women’s-fit shirts are shorter to begin with, so heat shrinkage shows up faster in the body length.

Every one of them can be printed with a name and number, and the personalisation rules are the same as on the unisex shirts.

A quick pre-order checklist

  1. Measure your bust in centimetres, tape level, not pulled tight.
  2. Match it to the chart on the product page — not to your dress size.
  3. Decide on fit: shaped and shorter (women’s) or longer and looser (unisex).
  4. If you are between sizes and want it fitted, stay on the smaller size.
  5. If you are 5’8″ or taller, check body length before chest.

Get those five right and the shirt fits out of the bag. If it does not, our returns window is 14 days.
